Full Sweep of Westview!

The Sundevils traveled down the street to Westview and dominated with an easy sweep at every level.  The JV and the Girls won by significant margins with many events taking 1-2 or even 1-2-3.  Varsity winners were Kelsey Quigley(200 Free), Kirsten Kragten (200IM, 500 Free), Vanessa Evans (50 Free), Allison Rogers (Diving), Janessa Schmidbauer (100 Free), and Jacquelyn Gentes (100 Back). Allison Rogers had her best diving meet yet and just missed her auto cut while Angela Woods just missed her Consideration cut for CIFs as well in her best meet of the year.  Other great swims were turned in by Shelby Jones in the breaststroke as she picked up her first CIF cut of the year and had a very fast come from behind relay leg in the 400 Free relay.

The boys had the closest contest of the day, but easily outdistanced their Division II rivals in the closing events to win by 14 points.  They were led by Patrick Nowak who won two close races in the 200 Free and 500 Free to pace the Sundevils.  Taylor Sultz had a great day as well winning the 50 Free and having 2 great relay splits to help the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays take first.  Anton Nathanson touched out a swimmer he will have to race at CIFs by 5 hundredths on a great reaching finish and also swam a best time in the 100 Fly.  Austin Quigley had a great 100 Back for his first victory as a Sundevil and also picked up his CIF automatic and Harrison Vanderlinde won the 100 Breast in an event Westview loaded trying to come back.  All in all the Sundevils won 8 of the 12 events and placed 2-3 in the non-winning events making it an easy win over last years CIF runner-up.

Rancho Bernardo Provides the Most Exciting Meet of the Year!

In a meet that came down to the last relay on both sides the girls remained unbeaten and preserved their bid for the league title while the boys were defeated in a valient effort.  The girls meet was a close contest all the way through with some late efforts bringing the Sundevils back from an early deficit to win by just 9 points. Janessa Schmidbauer had a great day winning a fast 50 free and bringing the Sundevils back to win the 400 Free relay in one of the most exciting races of the day.  Kirsten Kragten was double winner in the 100 Fly and 100 Back and Kelsey Quigley won the 500 Free for the Sundevils.

For the boys meet went back and forth all day and though a hard fought relay the boys were just 6 points off when the meet ended.  Individual Event winners were Gaither Rosser in Diving, Harrison Vaderlinde in the 100 Fly, Danny Ettelson in the 100 Back, and Anton Nathanson in the 100 Breast.

The biggest story of the meet was the re-emmergence of the Sundevil Spirit as the meet was one of the loudest and highly charged environments we have had this season.  This is the exact way we want to start building to the final part of the season.

Girls Take Down Torrey Pines!
Mt. Carmel easily upset Torrey Pines and solidified their bid for the Palomar League title beating the defending league champs 113-73.  It was a total team effort as MC won 10 of the 12 events on the day.  Double winners were Dani Spence in the 200 Free, 100 Free and Kirsten Kragten in the 100 Fly and 100 Back. Other Individual event winners were Kathryn Evans(200 IM), Alison Rogers(Diving), Kelsey Quigley(500 Free) and Jacquelyn Gentes(100 Breast). Great swims were also turned in by Christina Webb in the 200 Free and Mattie Watson in the 100 Fly and Aditi Pai in the 100 Back.

The boys had a tough meet and fell to Torrey Pines in their first loss of the year.  After going down early in the meet the boys clawed back to get the score within 4 after the 500 but a couple close races in the relays that went Torrey Pines way sealed the meet.  The Sundevils were paced by double winners Harrison Vanderlinde (500 Free, 100 Fly) and Patrick Nowak (200 Free, 100 Free). Great performances were turned in by Austin Quigley (500 Free), Taylor Sultz (100 Free), Andrew Watling (100 Free) and Anton Nathanson (200 IM).

The teams will travel to Mission Viejo to compete in one of the most competitive invitationals in Southern California on Saturday.
